Beech Mountain has the unique distinction of being the highest incorporated town in the Eastern United States. This beautiful Alpine village is nestled in the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, just a short drive to the town of Banner Elk and the Blue Ridge Parkway. At over 5500 feet above sea level, Beech Mountain offers excellent skiing – both day and night – as well as ice skating, snowboarding and sledding. This is one town that is a virtual winter wonderland full of fun family activities. There is even a free-of-charge sledding hill in town – next to the Town Hall – something sure to please the little ones. However, Beech Mountain is not just a wintertime resort town – summertime activities abound, as well. Just a few of the recreational opportunities available include hiking, mountain biking, fishing, horseback riding, rafting and golf. There are no high-rise buildings or chain stores in Beech Mountain, but a fine selection of charming restaurants, quaint inns, lodges and chalets. Visit the town’s General Mercantile where you’ll likely find anything you’re looking for, and explore the unique shops offering mountain arts and crafts, clothing, woodworking and antiques. For day trips, Beech Mountain is just a short drive to Linville Falls, Linville Caverns, Grandfather Mountain, the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Tweetsie Railroad.
