Cary is a thriving city of approximately 110,000, located in Wake County in the heart of the Research Triangle Area of North Carolina. The town became known as a “bedroom community” due to its ideal location to the Research Triangle near many high tech companies where residents would commute to work. In recent years, however, Cary has “come unto its own” and in January 2004, Money Magazine named it “the hottest town in the East” and one of six “Hottest Towns in America,” in August 2006. Other accolades include being named one of the “Best Small Cities in America,” and ranking fifth in the “Best Places to Live” category, again by Money Magazine. It has also been ranked in the “Top 10 Safest Cities in the U.S.” for six years in a row. It is no wonder, then, that the city of Cary is fast becoming one of the most sought after places to raise a family, retire or visit as a vacation destination. This peaceful community is conveniently located adjacent to the Raleigh-Durham International Airport and is just a two-hour drive to the beautiful beaches of North Carolina and about three hours to the mountains. Cary offers more than 20 public parks, twenty miles of hiking trails and is the site of the annual Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic. The town’s Amphitheater at Regency Park features concerts and other performances in a beautiful setting beside a lake and Cary is host to one of the South’s premier festivals – the Lazy Daze Arts and Crafts Festival, held in late August.

Cary Weather & Climate

The Piedmont Plateau in central North Carolina has become popular with retirees looking for a moderate climate. The region is protected by the western mountain ranges in winter, so the cold, snowy conditions of the mountainous ski resorts is less common here in the warmer east. Summer weather is the least variable and the most predictable - often with very calm conditions. Wind speeds are also much lower in summer than in winter. Intense, short-lived local showers are often common on a summer afternoon, although occasionally there are more widespread, gentle rain showers. Autumn is the driest season. Average humidity does not vary greatly from season to season, and the lowest levels are found over the southern Piedmont region. Tropical hurricanes come close enough to North Carolina to influence the weather about twice in an average year.
