Dillsboro is located southwest of Asheville in Jackson County, within the Nantahala National Forest. This quiet mountain town is known as the “crossroads to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway.” Dillsboro has welcomed visitors to their charming town since the turn of the century. It’s a great little town to walk about and explore the many specialty and craft shops, where you can observe some of the artisans at work. There are several family style restaurants in town, and lodging ranges from cozy hotels to romantic inns and bed & breakfasts. Both a river and a stream run through Dillsboro, which provides ample opportunities for swimming, fishing, whitewater rafting, kayaking and other water sports. During winter, Dillsboro is just a short drive to several popular ski slopes, and hiking, mountain biking, camping and much more are available in the nearby national forests and wilderness areas. The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad departs from Dillsboro on year-round, exciting, scenic excursions, and each June the town celebrates its annual Heritage Festival, a tradition since 1984.
