Creston
is a gated, mountaintop community located eight miles south of Black Mountain and just east of Asheville. It offers privacy and serenity, a place where all the homes were built to take advantage of the commanding mountain views. The community of Creston is a well-thought out development where foot trails meander through the Creston Reserve, and several overlooks provide views of Crooked Creek Valley and the Hickory Nut Mountains to the east. Creston is located on a ridge with seven sites encircling a neighborhood green and park. In order to keep traffic at a minimum, the roadways in the community are not designed as thoroughfares but as avenues off of the roundabout, each ending in a cul de sac. This secluded mountaintop village has easy access on and off the mountain, and although very private, it is only a short drive to the town of Black Mountain and about 15 minutes to the city of Asheville via Interstate 40. Some of the attractions in the Creston area include The Blue Ridge Parkway, Cold Mountain, The Folk Art Center (just outside of Asheville) and the Biltmore Estate and Gardens, which is the largest private home in America. Historic downtown Asheville has art galleries and museums, specialty shops and restaurants featuring everything from fresh North Carolina brook trout to Mediterranean style cooking. The mountains of surrounding Creston are also filled with numerous outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, white water rafting and snow skiing.

The High Country in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina has four mild seasons that help support the busy tourist trade. The mountain valley temperatures average 6 to 8 degrees cooler than the nearby Piedmont region in the summer months, and near the mountain peaks, it can be 10-20 degrees cooler. Moist southerly winds are forced upward in passing over the mountain barrier, causing showers and thunderstorms in spring and summer. Due to mild summer temperatures, the mountains have always been a welcome escape from the heat at the lower elevations. Summer nights are crisp and cool, but not too cold for camping or other outdoor activities. Although it does snow in the region, large amounts of snowfall and severe low temperatures are rare except at the highest peaks. Therefore most ski resorts use snowmaking equipment to ensure a reliable supply.
