Hendersonville is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, right in the middle of Henderson County. This prosperous, small city has lots of recreational opportunities, rich history and culture, beautiful scenery and friendly people. It’s located just 22 miles south of Asheville and is actually closer to the Asheville Airport than is the city of Asheville. Historic Hendersonville and neighboring Flat Rock have both been popular retirement areas since the turn of the 20th century. Beautiful downtown Hendersonville was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. It’s a colorful place with curving streets lined with thriving specialty shops, antique stores, restaurants and planter boxes filled with seasonal flowers. Activities in the area include hiking and nature trails, picnic areas, fishing, boating and canoeing. The drive through apple country surrounding Hendersonville is dramatic when the spring apple blossoms are in full bloom, or during the fall harvest. Approximately eight miles from town, you’ll cross the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the highway then takes a dive through the mountains to Bat Cave and Hickory Nut Gorge. It’s a breathtaking ride that reminds you that you are, indeed, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Downtown Hendersonville also hosts the North Carolina Apple Festival during Labor Day weekend, as well as several art shows, street dances and parades throughout the year.
