Winston-Salem
is a city of approximately 186,000 residents, located in central North Carolina’s “Triad” region. It’s the fifth largest city in the state and is easily accessible via Interstates 77, 40, 85 and U.S. Highway 52. Historical Winston-Salem was named to a prestigious list of “the most livable communities in the United States” by Partners for Livable Cities, a national non-profit organization that has been promoting livable communities since 1977. The Old Salem district and related Historic Bethabara are the citys oldest historical attractions. Also of historical interest is Reynolda Village, which includes Reynolda Gardens and the Reynolda House Museum of American Art. Other places to visit include the Horne Creek Historic Farm, Tanglewood Park and SECCA (the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art.) Old Salem is located southwest of the intersection of Business 40 and U.S. Highway 52, and is one of the most authentic living history restorations in the United States. Ticketed tours of Old Salem are unguided, with trained, costumed interpreters located in most buildings to provide historical background and explain the daily tasks of the original settlers. The 1.4 million-acre Yadkin Valley is located just west of Winston-Salem and is home to several picturesque vineyards and wineries that offer tours and tastings. The area is also known for its excellent golfing opportunities, with courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. In fact, “The Triad,” of central North Carolina has been named the “#1 Big City for Golf in America,” by Golf Digest.
