Indian-Beach is a relatively new town, incorporated in 1973, and located in the mid Bogue Banks region. It is the next to the last island in a chain of barrier islands known as the Southern Outer Banks, or the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. Indian Beach is unique in that it is divided in the middle by the unincorporated community of Salter Path, creating an East Indian Beach and a West Indian Beach. This resort town offers visitors beautiful beaches for swimming, sunning, surf fishing and other water sports, as well as restaurants and camping. The Bogue Sound, which separates Indian Beach from the mainland, is exceptional for boaters and anglers. The thirty-mile long Bogue Banks Island is connected to the mainland by two high-rise bridges, one at Morehead City to Atlantic Beach on the east end and another from Cape Carteret to Emerald Isle on the west end. This whole region is a very popular vacation resort area with many rental homes and cottages, condos and hotels in the area. Other nearby attractions include Fort Macon State Park, where guided tours, a museum, nature programs and trails for hiking are available. The North Carolina Aquarium is in nearby Pine Knoll Shores and features a touch tank, a riverbank display with live alligators, canoe trips, interpretive beach walks and excursions to remote barrier islands.
